My vote for Record Of The Year.
It’s official. My vote for 2010’s Record Of The Year is…

Kavinsky-“Nightcall (Breakbot Remix)”
Breakbot has the unique talent of upstaging the artists that commission him to do remix work for them. Almost every Breakbot remix blows the original versions out of the water. This song is an adamantium-strength example of that.
This remix is perfect in every way. It’s a sexier, funkier take on an otherwise hard and eerie track. It has everything I’ve ever wanted in a song: vocoder, chopped sample instrumentation, 110 beats-per-minute, breathy vocals (by Lovefoxxx of CSS, one of my favorites), a whispered breakdown, and a rip roaring hook that veers into a rip roaring frenzy.
Record Makers, the label that houses Kavinsky, put on a remix contest where people could download the track’s stems and re-work it. I feebly attempted to do it, but I scrapped it because Breakbot’s version made it hard for me to be satisfied with my own take on it.
